History of The Dufresne Group

Doug and Eva Dufresne opened the first Dufresne Furniture store in 1986 in Kenora, Ontario, creating the foundation of what has become The Dufresne Group (TDG). Over the last three decades, we’ve experience tremendous growth. We’ve grown from seven team members in 1993 to nearly 1,000 of the best team members in Canada! We have become one of the largest independent regional furniture chains and dealers of well-known brands such as Palliser, Whirlpool, Serta, Sealy and Ashley in Canada. And under the guidance of Troy Davis, President, TDG, we look to continue our expansion across the country.

Today, the TDG umbrella includes:

  • 12 Dufresne Furniture & Appliances stores across Manitoba and Ontario
  • 20 Ashley HomeStores in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario, plus two clearance centres
  • 130+ Dufresne Retail Solutions Group (dRSG) locations from coast to coast
  • 6 distribution centres to manage distribution, transportation and repair for our Canadian brands
  • 1 centralized customer service centre in Canada
  • Wholesale furniture supplier for the NorthWest Company
  • Independently operated Tutoris warranty program
  • International partnership with the Dufresne Spencer Group including 39 Ashley HomeStore locations, 4 Stash Homes stores and numerous warehouses across nine states

We are proud to be a family owned and operated organization and value the foundation the Dufresne family has set for us. Throughout our growth, we strive to bring their small town values to our conference tables, our stores and our internal and external interactions and give back to our communities, our customers and guests and our team members.

We know the success and growth of TDG comes from our teams. Because of their commitment, hard work and dedication, we’ve receive the following recognitions:

  • Platinum Member, Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies, 2005 - 2015: TDG is one of the few companies to be awarded platinum status and maintain it for 10 years! Each year we’re evaluated on our growth, development and success across all aspect of our business.
