History of The Dufresne Group

Doug and Eva Dufresne opened the first Dufresne Furniture store in 1986 in Kenora, Ontario, creating the foundation of what has become The Dufresne Group (TDG). Over the last three decades, we’ve experience tremendous growth. We’ve grown from seven team members in 1993 to nearly 1,000 of the best team members in Canada! We have become one of the largest independent regional furniture chains and dealers of well-known brands such as Palliser, Whirlpool, Serta, Sealy and Ashley in Canada. And under the guidance of Troy Davis, President, TDG, we look to continue our expansion across the country.

Today, the TDG umbrella includes:

  • 12 Dufresne Furniture & Appliances stores across Manitoba and Ontario
  • 20 Ashley HomeStores in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario, plus two clearance centres
  • 130+ Dufresne Retail Solutions Group (dRSG) locations from coast to coast
  • 6 distribution centres to manage distribution, transportation and repair for our Canadian brands
  • 1 centralized customer service centre in Canada
  • Wholesale furniture supplier for the NorthWest Company
  • Independently operated Tutoris warranty program
  • International partnership with the Dufresne Spencer Group including 39 Ashley HomeStore locations, 4 Stash Homes stores and numerous warehouses across nine states

  • Platinum Member, Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies, 2005 - 2015: TDG is one of the few companies to be awarded platinum status and maintain it for 10 years! Each year we’re evaluated on our growth, development and success across all aspect of our business.
  • Lieutenant-Governor’s Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Community by a Business, 2012: The Manitoba Chambers of Commerce presented this award to Troy Davis, President TDG, in recognition of TDG’s contribution to the community through charities related to women, health care and children, in particular, our $1 Million Charity Challenge.
  • Retailer of the Year, 2012: Dufresne Retail Solutions Group (dRSG) was honoured to receive this award from Canada’s National Home Furnishing Association.
  • Finalist for Canadian Association of Family Enterprise, 2011
  • Retailer of the Year, 2005: Dufresne Furniture was honoured with the Canada’s National Home Furnishing Association award.
  • Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies, 1999-2004: TDG was awarded this honour prior to achieving platinum status. At each step along the way, we were evaluated for our service, financial status, innovation, growth and overall development before receiving this award.
